John Collingswood is a British artist based in Oulu, Finland. He is director of TaikaBox - an organisation dedicated to cross-media collaboration - particularly focused on the intersection of dance and technology. John’s practice generally revolves around cameras, computers, projectors, records and bits of old wood. He has recently transformed a disused fishing shed into a community art space.

M A N D A L A is a meditative video work inspired by the winter landscape around Moskosel and an ongoing investigation into a peculiar medical condition that the artist is suffering from, whereby long periods of walking outdoors can lead to an altered state of visual perception. The work also references the Wim Hof method, right-brain meditation and the extraction fans in the kitchens at Moskosel Creative Lab.

The images were all shot around Moskosel using a DSLR and drone. Part of the editing process is given over to algorithms controlled by stacked-up sine waves which reference natural cycles of the seasons, tides and internal rhythms.
